Interior decoration is the set of various but related tasks to turn your interior space in an effective and attractive place. Every part and act of interior decoration has its own importance and beauty. Good lighting is one of those parts of interior decoration that, if done well, counts a lot in the splendor of your home or even work place. The change in lighting can change the view of a room. Therefore, lighting is an important part of your interior design.
One of the best ways of lighting is utilizing the natural light. Rooms can be arranged and constructed to take advantage of the sun light at different times of the day. If your home receives plenty of sun-light then you may use cooler colors in your décor, whereas warm colors are preferred if there is less of sun-light. Nevertheless, the effects of natural light can be controlled by the use of fabrics and curtains. Moreover, modern artificial lighting techniques can give your room a color and atmosphere. Through a balance of lighting and a selection of blinds, window treatments and shades, interior design lighting can create a mood that works on any occasion. By focusing on, atmosphere, color, position and overall infrastructure, one can use natural and artificial light as tools of interior decoration.
The lighting of a place can be for mainly three purposes. One is general lighting, which is for lighting the whole room. General lighting is also known as Ambient Lighting. Other reason can be for task lighting; that is lighting needed for performing a specific task- for example: lighting used during cooking in kitchen, used for dining, or for studying. The third purpose of lighting is decorative lighting that is usually provided by wall sconce lighting- for example: candelabrum, chandelier, candle holders, lamps etc. Aesthetic lighting is another name for Decorative Lighting. Accent lighting is also used as decorative lighting, but it is mainly used for highlighting a specific area or object such as a work of art or any architectural feature.
As for everything else, harmony in lighting design should be kept in consideration.
